Maternity Care Coalition (MCC) is a trailblazing nonprofit organization that helps Pennsylvanian families throughout pregnancy and their children’s first years. They focus particularly on neighborhoods with high rates of poverty, infant mortality, health disparities, and changing immigration patterns.
As the organization celebrated their 40th anniversary, I was tasked with elevating the identity of their largest benefit and auction, Celebrating Mothers Brunch.
MCC works tirelessly to improve the lives of pregnant women, parents, and children. They go above and beyond, providing resources, compassionate support, education, and tools to improve and foster healthy lives and families. The event identity was informed by the insight that MCC nurtures their community, much like a mother nurtures her child. That comparison led to a direction focused around mother and child memorabilia, including photos, personal stories, celebratory cards, and loving notes. This identity is nostalgic for donors and parents recalling their childhood. It also highlights the future years of happiness and milestones to come for the families helped by MCC.
MCC’s community was encouraged to submit photos from their childhood and parenthood to be featured in the event identity.
Before working with MCC, the Celebrating Mothers Brunch identity was not much different than an evergreen bridal shower invitation. MCC mostly services the low-income Black and Hispanic communities in Southeastern Pennsylvania, so it was important to reflect and represent them in the design.
Handwritten notes were utilized throughout social media, signage, and the event program. These heartfelt notes not only reiterated the concept of the identity, but also gave the organization an extra platform to communicate how much they value their supporters, employees, and clients.
